Family Day—A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children is a national "holiday" promoting family dinners as a tool to prevent substance abuse. The effort, organized by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University, began in 2001 and has since drawn tie-ins from Safeway Corp.'s Safeway Foundation, Coca-Cola Co., Kroger Co., American Express, General Mills, McDonald's, Del Monte Foods, PepsiCo Foundation and others.

Supervalu's 2,500 stores across all its chains (including Acme, Albertsons, Cub, Jewel-Osco and Shaw's) will host meal demos and meal deals in Albertsons stores, a photo contest awarding a $100 gift card in Shop 'n Save stores, and other in-store events.

Albertsons' meal offer (lasagna, bagged salad, salad dressing and bread for less than $10) is part of its ongoing Meal Deals promotional platform, a key piece of Albertsons' strategy to capture more meal occasions from casual and quick-service restaurants (PROMO July 2006).

At the same time, Nickelodeon Networks continues its tie-in to Family Day for the third year with a dedicated Web site, TV Land and Nick at Nite's Family Table, with tips on table conversation, clips of dinner-table scenes from Nick shows, and a message board for parents.
