Borders is offering free in-store wellness events to drive traffic while helping people stay motivated with their New Year’s resolutions.

The retailer is hosting everything from yoga classes, wellness fairs and singles nights to fitness and recreation clinics and dieting seminars at more than 500 stores nationwide through January, Borders spokesperson Kolleen O'Meara said. One to three events will take place per store, she said.

In addition to bringing people in-store, the promotion is designed to promote the chain as the “headquarters for knowledge and entertainment” to help customers achieve their personal goals, the company said.

“Since January and the New Year is a time when people are focused on making changes in their lifestyle, finances, professional life or love life, we thought it's a great time to help our customers by offering the resources and tools to help them reach their goals,” O'Meara said.

A list of events and area stores is available at http://beta.BordersStores.com under the store locator section. Representatives from fitness centers, hospitals, singles groups and retirements centers will participate.

Borders will support the wellness events through print ads, online marketing and through its weekly e-newsletter sent to 22 million people who belong to the Borders Rewards loyalty program.
