Safeway Sponsors MLB's Washington Nationals

Safeway, Inc. has signed up with Major League Baseball's newest expansion team, the Washington Nationals.

Safeway stores in the metropolitan Washington, DC area will sponsor the Nationals as "the official grocery store" of the team. Terms were not disclosed.

Safeway will run in-stadium promotions and host Safeway Club Card Night events, offering ticket discounts to its loyalty-card holders for select games this season. Safeway also will run ads in the team's publications.

"We are truly teaming up to promote synergy between the two organizations," said Safeway Eastern Division President Hank Cominiello in a statement.

"Being aligned with Safeway provides us with a partner that will extend our organization deep into the community," said Washington Nationals Team President Tony Tavares in a statement.
