Nike Bauer Auctions NHL Winter Classic Gear
Retro skates and sticks used by Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres players during the outdoor National Hockey League Winter Classic game on New Year’s Day will be auctioned by Nike Bauer Hockey to buy hockey gear for underprivileged young players.
The skates and the wood finished sticks—retro versions of current Nike Bauer equipment—will be auctioned for the NHL Players’ Association’s Goals & Dreams fund’s initiatives in Pittsburgh and Buffalo. Players also autographed additional retro skates and sticks to be auctioned.
Information about how to place bids is available online at http://www.nikebauer.com/blog or http://www.nhlpa.com. The auction commences next week (when the autographed gear is received from the players) and will continue through the NHL All-Star weekend at the end of the month.
Apart from proceeds of the auction, Nike Bauer is commemorating the landmark outdoor game by donating 108 sets of skates, sticks, helmets, gloves and under-protective gear in players names to the NHLPA Goals & Dreams Fund.
“We are providing resources to kids who may not otherwise have an opportunity to play hockey,” said Mark Duggan, president and CEO of Nike Bauer Hockey, in a statement.
