TouchTunes Polls Strong Results for Rock the Vote
Most respondents in a recent national poll conducted for Rock the Vote by TouchTunes would rather have a beer with Barack Obama than with Hillary Clinton or John McCain.
In a more serious vein, among more than 72,000 voters surveyed via TouchTones’ jukebox polling system, 41% said jobs and the economy are their primary concerns in this presidential election year. And most importantly for Rock the Vote, nearly 10,000 people opted to receive information about voter registration.
The poll, conducted between April 28 and May 11, is the first of two such efforts by TouchTunes for Rock the Vote, the non-partisan, non-profit group, which seeks to pump up the volume during election seasons to encourage broader voter participation.
TouchTones jukeboxes hit the younger demographic Rock the Vote tries to motivate.
“It was really the right demographic in the right environment,” Vicki Saunders, TouchTunes director of music, marketing and promotions, said.
Typically, TouchTunes works with record labels to gauge listener responses to new releases. TouchTunes’ technology enables the on-site polling, and was set up to prompt prospective voters about registering at the end of the presidential poll.
TouchTunes next poll will be conducted sometime in the fall, focusing primarily on the candidates.
On the beer poll, Obama was the preferred drinking buddy nationally (29% to 22% for Clinton and 20% for McCain). But there were regional differences with midwesterners (31%) preferring Obama as their favored bar mate, while south westerners leaned toward Clinton (24%) and southeasterners favoring McCain (23%).
Asked “Which party rocks?”, bar patrons went solidly Democratic with 34% making that party their pick, compared to 18% for Republicans. The non-existent Independent Party polled 18%, which could be the most intriguing indicator of all in this decidedly unscientific survey.
