GMR MARKETING:

New Berlin, WI, has hired Rick Barakat as director, sports client services. The position takes effect Sept. 4. Barakat will focus on managing collegiate accounts and growing GMR's business development in the sports industry. Barakat had been director of marketing for ACC Properties (the marketing arm of the Atlantic Coast Conference) managing corporate sponsorships from Pepsi-Cola Co., Jeep/Chrysler and Chick-fil-A. He will be based out of the Charlotte, NC office.

MAPLE LEAF FARMS: Milford, IN, named Boomm Marketing and Communications, Westchester, IL, agency of record for its frozen-chicken business in the U.S. and fresh-duck business in Canada. First work is a yearlong Family Fun promo with on-pack coupons and an offer for free board games.

GEORGE P. JOHNSON CO: Auburn Hills, MI, named David Liau creative director for its San Jose, CA office. He had been design director Sparks Exhibits & Environments. Also, David Siegel was named senior project designer in San Jose.
