Thrifty Giving Away Free Car Rentals

To drive traffic to its Web site, Thrifty Car Rental is giving away free car rentals.

Thrifty is giving away a car rental a day through May 31

Consumers enter by filling out a short survey at Thrifty.com, and can opt in to receive e-mail offers from Thrifty. Some 92 daily prizes of a free weeks rental will be awarded. The sweepstakes began Tuesday and runs through May 31.

The company, a subsidiary of Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, is breaking away from its traditional ways of getting the word out—TV and print ads—by promoting the sweeps solely online.

"It's the most cost-effective way for us to get the word out," said Thrifty spokesman Chris Payne. "We've also found that most of our customers are drawn to our Web site because of other travel they are booking online."

Thrifty placed banners on travel-related Web sites such as Yahoo, Weather.com and MSNBC Budget Travel and delivered e-mails to Coolsavings customers as well as Thrifty customers.
