Children Take Over Times Square Nov. 8th

On Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. children of all ages will have full reign of Times Square. For the first time, area businesses have joined together to turn the area into a giant playground. The event will immediately follow the 3rd annual Toys 'R' Us Holiday Parade, which starts at 9 a.m. at 56th St. and 7th Ave.

"This is the first time we have gotten together to try to build out from the Toys 'R' Us parade. We hope to attract thousands of families to participate in events that are fun, easy, and affordable," says spokesperson Holly Taylor.

Many Times Square restaurants will offer special promotions throughout the day including: Brazil Grill, Broadway Joe Steakhouse, La Primavera, Manhattan Chili Co., Pasta Break, Raku, Restaurant Charlotte, Rio Grand, Rosa's Place, Mars 2112, and St. Andrews. Retail stores offering discounts include: Capezio Dance Theatre Shop, Cash RX Plus, Georgi-Oh! and Zan.

"There is a large population of office workers that work in Times Square during the week and don't think of coming back on weekends with their families. Hopefully this event will bring families to this giant entertainment mecca," Taylor remarks.

Over a dozen organizations have planned special events and family-friendly attractions including: the Times Square Visitors Center, the New Victory Theatre, Madame Tussaud's, Planet Hollywood, and McDonald's.

"This event is the perfect way for Times Square businesses to work together and draw attention to the area as a family-friendly location. It is our intent to try to have this event happen each year," concludes Tim Thompkins, president Times Square Business Improvement District.
