Warner Bros., VH1 Launches Songwriter's Contest

Calling all songwriters. Warner Bros. Pictures and cable music channel VH1 are on the hunt for an original love song as part of a new online contest.

Songwriting hopefuls can enter for a chance to have their tune professionally recorded. The contest is inspired by the upcoming Warner Bros. film Music and Lyrics.

To enter, contestants must write, record and upload a video performance of an original love song to Talentload.tv/musicandlyrics.com.Video will be streamed on the site. VH1.com users can rate submissions Jan. 21-Feb. 2. The top-choice videos will be reviewed by a panel of VH1 and Warner Bros. Pictures representatives. Entries will be judged on theme, lyrics and overall musicality.

One grand-prize winner will fly to Los Angeles for the red carpet premiere of Music and Lyrics and will have their song professionally recorded. For each vote cast, VH1.com users will be entered into a separate sweeps for a chance to win one of 25 DVDs of the film.

Online materials support the contest.

In the romantic comedy, a washed-up singer has a few days to write a chart-topping hit for admiring teen fans. He’s never written lyrics in his life, but hits it off with a younger woman who has a flair for words. Music and Lyrics, which stars Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore, opens nationwide Feb. 14. The contest runs through Jan. 20.
