Lacrosse League Signs Championship Game Sponsors
The National Lacrosse League, a professional indoor lacrosse league based in New York, has signed Edge Shaving Gel, Subway and GM Hummer as sponsors of its league championship game, which will be held Saturday in Toronto.
Edge, which is also a league sponsor, is the title sponsor of the Edge NLL Championship game between the Arizona Sting and Toronto Rock, which will be televised live on NBC. Subway will be the game's official sandwich, and GM Hummer the official vehicle. Both brands will be official broadcast sponsors.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Ben Sturner, president of New York-based Leverage Sports, the NLL's agency of record, said the league will be working in the off season to secure league sponsorship deals with Subway and GM Hummer.
The league was launched in 1987 with a handful of teams in Northeast markets, but grew to include franchises in Canada and the West in 2002. The league will expand from 10 to at least 14 markets next season, Sturner said.
"The NLL and lacrosse is becoming more of a national sport every day and is a hot property," Sturner said. "As lacrosse and the NLL continue to grow significantly you will see more and more national sponsors coming on board."
In addition to Edge, current sponsors include Internet phone service provider Vonage, Sportsbook.com and Wendy's.
