CoolBrands Expands DSD Ice Cream

Ice cream marketer CoolBrands will expand its U.S. direct-store delivery system by acquiring Kinnet Dairy's distribution business from Parmalat.

Toronto-based CoolBrands bought Kinnet's inventory, vehicles, trademarks and customer and route lists for its direct-store delivery business in Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina for an undisclosed sum.

Kinnet becomes part of CoolBrands' Eskimo Pie Frozen Distribution division; Parmalat continues to own Kinnet Dairy's milk business.

Last year CoolBrands bought Nestlé's U.S. distribution system; the Kinnet purchase expands its DSD network serving grocers and c-stores in California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Washington and the District of Columbia.
