The fast-food chain is playing off the name of the small town, population 70, to entice people to sample its KFC Hot Wings.

Visitors can log on to www.kfc.com to see if the temperature in their city is hotter than the temperature in the small town. The first 500 people who log on the site each day between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. through July 4 and register their hometown’s temperature as “Hotter than Hell” will win a $3 voucher for hot wings from KFC.

The company installed an oversized thermometer on the outside of the general store to monitor the town’s temperature to play up the promotion. It also treated residents to a free lunch of KFC Hot Wings.

KFC is spreading the word about the promotion through PR and online. The company is handling the effort online internally; Weber Shandwick is in charge of PR.
