Velocity Wins Home Depot Sports Marketing Business
Velocity Sports & Entertainment, LLC has been named by The Home
Depot to activate its new West Coast sports center and to develop a
national youth-sports marketing program.
Spending was not disclosed.
The appointment marks the first time The Home Depot, Atlanta, GA, has
tapped a sponsorship-marketing agency despite its long-term involvement
in numerous sponsorships including those with NASCAR and the U.S.
Olympic Committee.
Velocity will help leverage and activate the new Home Depot Center, a
multi-sport facility located outside of Los Angeles in Carson, CA, that
opens Sunday. An integrated marketing program includes retail
promotions, presence and Hispanic marketing programs and general p.r.
platforms.
The facility features a 27,000-seat soccer stadium, 13,000-seat tennis
stadium, track and field facility and a Velodrome cycling center. Other
sports opportunities include baseball, softball and boxing. The site
will also be used for training by U.S. Olympic teams.
Velocity has also been tapped to develop a national grassroots
youth-sports marketing program under the Home Depot name. The concept,
while still under development, focuses on bringing the Home Depot brand
to local communities across the country.
"We are excited about the opportunity to work with Home Depot's newest
sponsorship and to also develop a program that's going to take them
into local communities coast to coast," said David Chass, VP at Wilton,
CT-based Velocity.
